Painting space is an intimate space that exists between private or public realms, in personal or shared experiences and atmospheres.
I draw on art historical, political and personal references, scenarios derived from familiar domestic experiences, social media, pop culture and politics as source material to make connections. Some of these images are from personal snapshots, magazines and advertisements, while others are sourced from the internet and act as a visual metaphor for the layers of personal memory and complex narratives. Series of paintings emerge through research and reveal the narrative as the imagery unfolds. It is a discovery that flows to the surface, then ebbs away again perhaps for days or months until the reflection becomes really clear in the present as a composition of many layers of time.
